God and Country

Just as surely as the Lord told the pastor of the church at Ephesus that his church had left his first love (Rev. 2:4), America has left its first love: God. The United States was founded by people who loved and followed God. In 1620, the Pilgrims landed near what is today Plymouth, Massachusetts. There they erected a cross and prayed for the Lord’s guidance and protection. From the very beginning, this nation was dedicated to God. Regardless of what history revisionists try to say, that’s the truth!

How did the Lord tell the pastor in Ephesus to remedy his situation?
"Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent."
Revelation 2:5
God says to “do the first works,” which means to remember, repent, and return. This is how the Lord told the pastor at Ephesus to get back what he had lost. This will also work for us as individuals, and it will work on the national level too. We need to remember how this nation started, repent for the way that it is, and return to the standards and principles that made it great.

I’m grateful for all the wonderful things God has done in this nation. We all should be. But we need to remember what exalted us in the first place. Proverbs 14:34 says, “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.” Righteousness is the reason our nation has been great. And only righteousness will make it great again.

It never goes well for a country that forsakes the Lord. We can look to history to verify that. We can’t assume that if we continue toward ungodliness, America would be exempt from a similar fate that other nations that forsook the Lord experienced. We can’t just stick our heads in the sand and pretend everything will work itself out; we need to return to righteousness.

When God sent Jonah to confront Nineveh, probably the wickedest city of his day, one of the things Jonah said before he went was, “They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy” (Jon. 2:8). That’s a powerful piece of information! It says we forsake our own mercy by giving heed to lying vanities. The remedy to this is to give heed to the truth. The Bible says, “Thy word is truth” (John 17:17).

Truth and absolutes are not popular today, but it’s the truth of God’s Word that will keep us from forsaking the mercy of God. That’s what happened after Jonah preached to the people of Nineveh. Scripture says they “believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them” (Jon. 3:5). An entire city was saved because one man had the guts to declare God’s truth! That’s awesome! God would do no less for America if we did the same thing. It’s not too late for our country. With God, all things are possible (Matt. 19:26)!

The very fact that He’s still sending me and others, just as He once sent Jonah, means that it’s not too late. We just need to remember from where we have fallen and return to our first love.

A while back, I met with a former senator who shared with me a lot of his views on what’s happening in our nation. I was really encouraged. He said that he has become more optimistic than ever about the future of our nation. He became convinced that the majority of Americans are not for all that is going on. But his assessment was that the ungodly are more committed to changing this nation than the godly are in preserving it. That’s a shame. You know, we are the salt of the earth (Matt.5:13). But we aren’t doing any good if we remain in the salt shaker. Unless we break out of the four walls of the church and go into the secular areas, the church is not going to be the salt and light that God called us to be. That’s why several leaders and I have started the Truth and Liberty Coalition.

It wasn’t enough to win all the key victories we did in the 2016 elections. Those victories have given us an opportunity to start reversing ungodliness in America in a major way. But we’re far from done. You might ask, “How can I get involved?” Well, one of the first steps to getting active is having the right information to act on. That’s why we’ve set up www.truthandliberty.net to help you keep up to date with what’s going on around America, both politically and socially. This site will also let you know all the things we’re doing currently to help steer the nation toward godliness. At this site, you can also subscribe to our 7M Ventures, Inc., newsletter, donate, and learn more ways that you can get involved.

And don’t think that this site is only for people in the United States. The changes in America - both good and bad - are reflected all over the world. What you learn at this site can help you regardless of the nation you live in. We’re all in this together!

God And Country

Many Christians know very little about how to restore America to its godly heritage. But you can't restore something if you don't know what it originally was.
