Did you know that imagination is important in receiving your healing?
It’s true, your imagination is powerful, and using it the right way can help you receive your healing. Of course, to use your imagination, you have to first understand what your imagination is. According to the dictionary, imagination is the ability to see something that’s not real or present. Imagination can be used negatively or positively, and often the Bible warns us of the problems that come from a negative imagination. That is why the Lord had to confuse languages at the tower of Babel.
However, there is a positive way that you can use your imagination—the Bible calls this hope.
For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
One day I was meditating on this scripture in Romans, and it suddenly dawned on me that hope is seeing something that you can’t see—this is the same as the definition of imagination! I’ve got an entire book on The Power of Imagination, but today I want to focus on applying the concept of hope—your positive imagination—to healing. You need to use your positive imagination to see yourself healthy and enjoying life in total wholeness.
The problem is most people are using their imagination negatively. You don’t see yourself as the victor. Instead, you see yourself as a victim. You’ve imagined that sickness, paralysis, and disease are all bigger than you. You think there’s nothing you can do, so you’ll just have to manage the illness and learn how to live with it. When you speak and imagine this way, you’re cooperating with the enemy. You’ve given the devil a place that he doesn’t deserve to have.
God did not make you to be sick. By the stripes of Jesus, you are healed (1 Pet. 2:24)! As a believer you need to take your thoughts captive and turn your negative imagination into positive imagination based on the Word of God.
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:3–5
This verse is telling us to control our negative imaginations. You can’t necessarily stop thoughts of illness from coming because we live in a fallen world, but you can take every thought captive and into obedience to Christ. Here’s another way to look at it: You can’t keep a bird from flying over your head, but you can keep it from landing in your hair and making a nest!
Hope—your positive imagination—isn’t the end result, but it is a necessary step along the way to your healing because it leads to faith. Hope activates faith.
So how do you maintain hope? Instead of dwelling on negative thoughts, use your positive imagination to begin to see yourself in victory. Don’t try to pray for something that you’ve never conceived of in your imagination. Instead, imagine yourself walking in your healing. Once you see something, once you can get it in your imagination, I guarantee, it’s just a matter of time until you will see it and feel it in the natural.
We’ve received an abundance of healing testimonies and documented many of them in our Healing Journeys video series. Many people who’ve received healing talk about how they started with the Word of God and the knowledge that God’s will is always for healing. They gained hope and imagined themselves as healthy and whole before they walked in faith to receive their healings. This was the case with Maren Hamm. She was very ill with Lyme disease and bound to a wheelchair. However, she came to one of our Healing School sessions and learned the truth that God wanted her well. Then she began to see herself healed and not confined to a wheelchair. She saw herself able to run and dance and ride her horse again. She used her imagination to activate her faith, and today she is completely healed.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking you don’t have any power. Your imagination gives you great power, but if you aren’t using it, it won’t do you any good. If a doctor gives you a bad report, you need to focus your imagination on God. Isaiah 26:3 says,
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
This verse speaks to the power of your imagination. When you focus your imagination on God, you’ll be able to stay in peace and see yourself well. You’ve got to take the Word of God and meditate on it until it paints a picture in your mind of you in victory, authority, and control over any attack of the enemy that’s coming against you.
There is so much more I’d like to share with you about healing, but I don’t have the space here. Using your imagination is a critical step in getting your healing, but there are many other topics in healing that you need to understand. That’s why my staff and I created Charis Healing University
