Recently, God did
something special for
me that I’d like to share
with you. He spoke to
me on March 5, 2021,
and told me some things
that have dramatically
changed my attitude.
I was in Oklahoma City at a conference called The Encounter, organised by my niece and nephew. I was praising God and thanking Him for the encouragement of seeing the younger generation take up the banner of preaching the Gospel. And as I was worshipping, the Lord spoke to me. He said that some of the young people in the auditorium would one day in the future be telling the young people of that generation about what it was like to live during the Third Great Awakening in America.
Now, that’s terminology I normally wouldn’t have used. I might have used the term “revival” or “move of God.” Those are terminologies I’m more familiar with.
The First Great Awakening happened in the 1700s and is what occasioned this nation to come into being. The Second Great Awakening happened in the early 1800s and led to the founding of many mission societies across the United States. But the Lord spoke to me about the Third Great Awakening. When it comes to revival or an awakening, this scripture is one you’re probably familiar with:
I’ve prayed that verse so many times. However, the problem I’ve had with it is that it says “if my people,” not “if my person.” This isn’t something that just one person can do. It’s talking about the body of Christ. We have to humble ourselves, we have to pray, and we have to seek God’s face. And even though on a personal level I have humbled myself, prayed, sought His face, turned from my wicked ways, and shared the Gospel with millions of people, I didn’t have any confidence that on a national or international level those qualifications had been met.
I do believe that we’re at a tipping point in our nation, but this isn’t limited to only the United States. I believe this applies to people in all nations. God promised that He would heal our land and He would forgive our sins, but first we have to respond to Him as stated in 2 Chronicles 7:14.
So, when the Lord said there were people in that auditorium that would one day be telling the young people of the next generation what it was like to be a part of the Third Great Awakening, that got me excited. I said, “God, are you saying that we are going to have a Third Great Awakening? Have those conditions been met? Is it going to happen?” Very clearly the Lord spoke to me, and He said, “No, it’s not coming, it’s already begun!”
I’ve spent my whole life labouring to see people changed. I believe that if enough people change, nations could change; and the entire culture of the world could change. Praise God, I believe I’ve got a word from the Lord that it’s already happening!
The scripture that immediately comes to my mind is the one in 1 Corinthians 15:58 that says,
If you only look in the natural, you may question this. It seems like the ungodly are gaining ground every day. If you only listen to the bad reports that are being put out over the propaganda networks today, it would seem there is no evidence of an awakening.
However, there is actually a lot of evidence of it. It’s just that you aren’t going to hear it on the mainstream media because they won’t promote all of the good things God is doing. While there is no doubt that bad things are happening, there are also great things happening.
One of the things that I want to start doing through this ministry is to share more of the good reports, the lives being changed, and all the wonderful ways God is moving. The secular news won’t share these things, so we are going to share them.
To put this Third Great Awakening into perspective, I interviewed David and Timothy Barton from WallBuilders (WallBuilders.com) on my Gospel Truth program. The wealth of knowledge that these two have on American history will blow you away.
In the interview, they talk about the history of revival and the First and Second Great Awakenings in America. They also explain that there’s always a resistance whenever there’s a great move of God, and how it causes the evil people to stand up, push back, and fight back in desperation.
In the United States, we are in a life-and-death fight for our freedoms, and, praise God, people are waking up! Millions more people voted in this last election cycle than have ever voted in the history of this nation. I believe there is a groundswell and that a Third Great Awakening is underway. It might only be up to our ankles; but praise God, it’s going to become a great and mighty river that we won’t be able to cross over (Ez. 47:2–5)!
